Shia LaBeouf is the most obnoxious man in Hollywood…

Shia LaBeouf is the most obnoxious man in Hollywood…

…says some guy from Oxford University

.Alfred Hitchcock’s voyeuristic thriller Rear Window is a masterpiece, a classic made possible by the master director’s finesse for drawing tension out of a scene and the engrossing lead performance by James Stewart, whose actions and reactions seem perfectly in line with how the audience is feeling. Updating the story would never be an easy task, and recasting the lead would be especially difficult. James Stewart is one of the true Hollywood greats; he carried himself like an everyman but had a magnetic charisma that pervaded each of his performances and demanded your attention. For the remake, Disturbia, to be a success that matched the original, a really talented actor would need to take on his role. Unfortunately, Shia LaBeouf got the gig.

Shia LaBeouf brings nothing to a film. Think about any performance you might have seen of his. Try and recall something positive that he brought to that film, and you’ll find yourself struggling. When he appears in enjoyable films, such as I, Robot, he’s simply forgettable. But when he’s in a bad film, as is the case more often than not, he grabs your attention for all the wrong reasons. His nervous fidgeting across the screen is an annoyance, his flat delivery of dialogue is completely devoid of any real expression or depth, and it’s impossible to watch a performance of him and see the character rather than the actor.

His selection of films is just abysmal. Ed Wood famously thought that he was making great movies, but Shia is under no such illusions. On multiple occasions he has come out and said that the film he was paid millions of dollars to star in, and that audiences paid millions of dollars to watch, was terrible. Such a statement might be refreshingly honest if it was used to expunge one blemish on a filmography. But when he does it film after film, you have to wonder if there’s some kind of connecting link behind why these films were terrible. But more than just being bad, his career seems to be a mission to destroy the memory of as many iconic films (and action figures) as possible. Aside from Rear Window, he’s helped to ruin Wall Street, Indiana Jones and Transformers, as if engaged in a competition with Hayden Christensen to see who can leave audiences with the sourest taste in their mouths.

The reason he’s still getting work could perhaps be explained if he was a professional worker and a great asset for studios when it came to the promotion of their films. He isn’t. He’s allegedly fought with Tom Hardy on-set , made headline news several times for being in trouble with the law, and can’t give an interview without embarrassing himself. While ostensibly working to market his films he’s told Megan Fox’s boyfriend he slept with her, called out Steven Spielberg for “dropping the ball”, claimed to have turned down 127 Hours and The Social Network because they weren’t “Warren Beatty-type game changers”, and criticised many of his co-stars. Harrison Ford described him best: Shia LaBeouf cannot promote a film without “making a complete ass” of himself.

Shia LaBeouf cannot act. He cannot work well with others. He cannot promote films. Why does he keep getting employed? I have no idea. All I can hope is that a recurring nightmare I have where he remakes The Graduate, tells everyone he pulled Katharine Ross and then insults Simon & Garfunkel never comes true.

Daniel Radcliffe is Britain's richest star under 30

Daniel Radcliffe is the richest British star under 30.

The 'Harry Potter' actor has made an estimated £45.6 million, £25 million of which comes from the final two films in the series 'The Deathly Hallows', alone, almost £15 million more than the second-placed star, 25-year-old Keira Knightley, who has made a fortune of £30.1 million so far.

Four of the top five money-makers in the list compiled by heat magazine come from the wizard movie series made famous by Daniel, with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint making £20.6 million and £19 million respectively.

'Twilight: Saga' actor Robert Pattinson - who appeared in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' - was placed fifth, having earned £18.5 million so far.

Britain's highest earning music star is 'Bleeding Love' singer Leona Lewis, who has generated a £12.5 million fortune since winning 'The X Factor' in 2006, placing her in sixth place.

Heat editor Sam Delaney said the list proved not all rich people are "corrupt, cigar-chomping fat cats".

He said: "In these tight financial times, there's a great deal of animosity felt towards society's richest. But who could possibly resent the millions earned by a charming young rascal like Daniel Radcliffe?

"The heat rich list is proof that not all mega-rich people are corrupt, cigar-chomping fat cats. This list is full of young people who have largely made their cash out of putting smiles on other people's faces"

Other notable inclusions on the list include Sienna Miller at 17, who at £6.1 million has earned less than Arctic Monkeys' singer Alex Turner, who has amassed an estimated fortune of £7.5 million.

'X Factor' judge Cheryl Cole has earned £7.9 million, putting her ahead of all her Girls Aloud bandmates.

Colin Firth Being Perfect For The New Yorker Profile

Alert your mother: Colin Firth was in town last week. The British actor best known for playing variations on the repressed-but-sexy English gentleman, such as the aloof Mr. Darcy in the BBC’s “Pride and Prejudice,” and the uptight, but still eligible, Mark Darcy, foil to the caddish Hugh Grant in “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” was staying at his favorite hotel, the Trump SoHo, and working the talk-show circuit. On Tuesday afternoon, he appeared in the lobby, wearing a black sweater and jeans, and displaying a jarringly un-brooding personality. “I’m not a big fan of hip hotels,” he said, explaining his choice of the Trump. “I prefer corporate—I hate to say that.”

Firth was promoting his new film, “The King’s Speech,” in which he plays King George VI, who ascended the British throne in 1936 after his brother, Edward VIII, abdicated in order to marry Wallis Simpson. Because of the weighty historical context (Britain on the eve of the Second World War) and the role (the story revolves around the King’s struggle to overcome a debilitating stammer, with the help of a speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush), it’s being discussed as Oscar material. This annoys Firth. The Academy Awards “could not have been further from our minds,” he said. “I thought we were making what could be a rather grim story of a man’s misery.” But he acknowledged that the monarch’s fear of public speaking could have broad appeal. “It’s an extremely heightened representation of anxieties that we all understand.”

He has one public-speaking horror story: “It was a punishment. I was eight. I was talking in class, and the teacher said, ‘Oh, do you want to give the lesson?’ ” The following week, after several sleepless nights, Firth was made to teach an hour-long class on the topic of soil. “It’s the only thing I ever really learned during my entire school years,” he said. “I still remember words like ‘loam’ and ‘subsoil,’ and different levels and layers. I brought in samples and little test tubes.”

This was in Hampshire, England. Firth’s father, a history professor, grew up in India, the fifth generation in a family of British colonists. He moved his family around, assuming teaching posts all over the world: Nigeria, St. Louis, and various places in England—“Billericay, Brentwood, Bath.” Firth downplayed the trauma of his peripatetic childhood compared with the trials endured by George VI, who was forced to wear leg braces and was abused by his nanny. But, he said, it gave him an appreciation for the importance of speech. As an eighth grader in Missouri, he was teased about his accent: “I kept hearing this expression ‘Pip pip cheerio!’ ” he said.(I'LL KILL THEM, BB)

Walking down Spring Street, Firth arrived at Mercer Kitchen, where he surveyed a downstairs bar area, and said, “Amazing! iPads and iPods littering the landscape!” He opted for a table upstairs, where he ordered a Diet Coke and scallops, and talked about learning to speak like King George VI.“There’s no manual on how you achieve a stammer,” he said. “There’s a lot of work on how you overcome one.” Tom Hooper, the film’s director, urged Firth and the rest of the cast to work on their British accents, to make them historically accurate. “We spoke differently as a culture eighty years ago,” Firth said, then did an impression of a nineteen-thirties aristocrat “tapping his ‘R’s: ‘Tedibly, tedibly.’ ” The Royals had their own way of speaking. “If you listen to Edward VIII’s abdication speech, it’s got some very strange sounds,” he said. “Almost an American influence.” George VI clenched his jaw when he spoke, and Firth imitated his weak “R”s: “He would say, ‘Might is Llllright.’ ’’ The current Royals, Firth said, have an accent, too. “It’s actually, I think, rather particular to the aristocracy, perhaps even to just the Royal Family—” He stopped himself, and added, somewhat unconvincingly, “I can’t really imitate it.” (He said that he hadn’t been following the Kate Middleton story very closely: “I’m not part of that discussion.”)

Firth draped an arm over the banquette and suggested that the idea of the repressed Englishman is an outdated cultural stereotype. “It’s not as common in England as is perceived,” he said. “Certainly not in my generation. We grew up wanting to be Jimi Hendrix or Keith Richards—we didn’t grow up wanting to be a Conservative Member of Parliament.

“The English are very paradoxical people,” he went on. “It doesn’t take much to get them to let their hair down—soccer, alcohol, music, or general excitement.” Of the things that excite him, he said, food “is very high on the list. I cook Indian food. That’s a big pleasure of mine.” He added, “I’ve been forbidden it by my wife.”

Firth recently celebrated his fiftieth birthday. It fell on the day that “The King’s Speech” screened at the Toronto film festival. When Firth walked onstage, the audience started singing. “So I got a ‘Happy Birthday’ from two thousand people,” he said. “It made me blush.”

Man of the Year Ryan Kwanten

For the past few years Kwanten’s been burning up the small screen as the hilarious Jason Stackhouse in True Blood, and in his spare time over the last year he’s managed to squeeze in three films – Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Griff the Invisible, and Red Hill. And there’s plenty more to come.

Kwanten shares everything with GQ from growing up in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, to breaking into Hollywood and his dislike of sleep. Despite his success Kwanten remains down-to-earth and is still excited by living and working in Hollywood – “Every time I drive down Santa Monica Boulevard, every time I see the Hollywood sign, I’ve been here eight years now and I still have that twinkle.”

*Walking Dead's* Andrew Lincoln Covers Current Issue of EW

Andrew Lincoln dresses up as his The Walking Dead character Rick Grimes for the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue!
Here’s what the 37-year-old British actor had to share about the hit AMC zombie series, which the mag hails as “the best new show on TV”:
On the gory scenes: “I remember thinking, ‘Please! This is not what I signed up for!’” (In one of the earlier episodes, Rick hacks up a corpse and smears the remains on him so he can escape a zombie by looking and smelling like one of them)
On how he landed the role: “[After auditioning] I got an e-mail outlining the project … It said The Walking Dead. Terrific title … and then it said ‘Zombie survival horror.’ I think I actually did a literal double take. I was like, ‘Really?!’ I was a bit reticent. It was only the next day, when they sent me this top secret script, that it really dawned on me what the show had a chance to do, and I got very excited.”
Creator Frank Darabont on casting Andrew, who starred in 2003’s Love Actually: “What’s weird for me now is that whenever I hear him talk with his English accent, I’m like, ‘Where’s Rick? Stop pretending you’re British!’”
     Love this show.

Christian Bale Doesnt believe the Dark Knight Rises is the real title of the next Batman film

The title for Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film was met with mixed reactions when he revealed it to Hero Complex last month. At a press event for Christian Bale’s new movie The Fighter, Screen Junkies asked what he thought of the title, The Dark Knight Rises.
“I don’t even know if that’s true,” Bale said when I asked him what he thought of the title. Nolan told The LA Times’ Hero Complex the new title, but hasn’t spoken to his actors yet. “Until Chris tells me, I don’t know,” Bale said.

It’s not surprising that Christopher Nolan hasn’t told his actors anything about the movie yet though. Michael Caine has stated that Nolan is “the most secretive man in the world“.

    Caine also
told Empire earlier this week that the cast will be getting their first look at the script in January. I’m sure once Warner Bros. sees this interview, Mr. Bale will be getting a phone call to let him know that it is in fact the
    official title.

Christian Bale gets angry and weird about his career

Ever since tapes leaked from Christian Bale's raging rant on the set of 'Terminator Salvation,' the public learned that the real-life Batman is a very, very angry fellow. In a Q&A for Esquire's December issue, Bale is the gift that keeps on giving, as he rips into acting and expresses how he loves it when people criticize him.

Bale says he's got a huge ego, yet seems to hate himself, then comes off like Mr. Family Man. And oh yeah, he's a big Chris Farley fan. Go figure.

On his acting career: "Well, it's also just I'm bored s***less with myself."

On being famous: "Well, it's embarrassing to be a star. Most people look at you like, 'That's not a f---ing job, is it?' And then on top of that, you learn very quickly that you're just a tool -- other people are manipulating everything you do, you're at the mercy of editors, and there's nothing you can do. But I learned that there's a certain character that can be built from embarrassing yourself endlessly. If you can sit happy with embarrassment, there's not much else that can really get to ya.

On his critics: "I do love people ripping the s--t out of me. I don't know what that's about, but I love it. The more crap you give me, the happier I get."

On journalists judging his movies: "I've enjoyed interviews so much when the writer has said to me, 'You know what? Not my thing. Didn't like it too much.' I find that endlessly entertaining."

More on acting: "I have a very sissy job, where I go to work and get my hair done, and people do my makeup, and I go and say lines and people spoil me rotten. And everyone has that kind of curiosity of how far can you go, how far can you take it. I think it's always good testing yourself. With various things that could be incredibly unimpressive to other people, but there's some meaning to it within yourself -- and also stupid, which many people called me during that time [laughs]."

On his lack of interest in movies: "You're not talking to a cinema-phile."
On one of his favorite actors: "Chris Farley was just phenomenal. 'Beverly Hills Ninja' will always remain one of my tops."

On the kind of characters he likes to play: "Great movie stars, that's what they do provide. Steve McQueen, you wanna f---ing be Steve McQueen. What cooler f---ing guy in the world than that? I can't do that. I don't believe in myself enough to do that. I've always thought, if I was in a band, I'd never want to be the lead singer."

On hiding his real identity: "Look, I've got incredible pride for my family. I've absolutely fallen into that cliché of a dad who could just happily talk about my daughter endlessly. But it's not what I'm about in terms of being an actor. I don't want people to know about that."

On what people say about him: "I don't care. Being misunderstood is not a bad thing as an actor. I know the truth."

Joseph Gordon-levitt talks about HitRecord sort of talks about his bro +pics of him and his dad at Lakers game

While “Inception” may have been the blockbuster of the summer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt made an impression on Bruins long before that. His talk tonight at Ackerman Grand Ballroom, hosted by UCLA Campus Events Commission, has sold out nearly 1000 seats and brought out fans of “10 Things I Hate About You” and “(500) Days of Summer” alike.

The 29-year old actor comes to UCLA tonight to talk about his production company hitrecord.org which allows artists from all over to contribute and collaborate on video productions.
According to Daniel Soto, CEC speakers director and a third-year geography and environmental studies student, tickets for the event sold out two hours after the Central Ticket Office (CTO) opened on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The 100 tickets released the following morning were gone in 15 minutes.

Welcome to our first ever live blogging event. Leave comments and questions below or tweet us @DailyBruinAE.

Update Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s talk at UCLA is the first stop on his “RE:Acting & RECording — a college tour.” He will be visiting schools in Los Angeles in New York throughout November.
Update 5:30 p.m. Leading the line on Ackerman’s first floor patio are Hillary Williams, first-year undeclared humanities student, and Lauren Gennawey, a second-year English and political science student, who were also the first to get their tickets on Wednesday morning. Williams and Gennawey said they lined up outside CTO at 5:30 a.m. because they didn’t want to risk missing out on seeing Gordon-Levitt. They weren’t alone as others joined them at 6 a.m.

“By the time we got there it was still dark out, so it felt like we were camping,” Gennawey said.
Williams, who said her favorite Gordon-Levitt movie is “500 Days of Summer,” said she doesn’t know what she’d do if she was able to meet him.

“I don’t want to be one of those girls that screams, but it just might happen,” Williams said.
Update 7:55p.m. Sound check has wrapped, a slideshow of hitrecord.org is playing and the 1000 empty chairs are half-way filled as students continue to file in through the back doors of Ackerman Grand Ballroom.

Update 8:25 p.m. Ackerman’s filled to capacity and it’s almost time to begin. Kelsey Sharpe, a third-year English student has been in line since 5:30 p.m. and has been a member of hitrecord.org for two months.

“I’m hoping this will encourage me to put something on it,” Sharpe said. Sharpe, who waited in line with her friend Brian Flannigan, a third-year political sciences student, and said that the wait for tonight’s show wasn’t too bad because the line was in good spirit.

“We made some new friends over our mutual love for movies,” said Sharpe.

Update 8:40 p.m. Without any introduction, Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes to the stage with a video camera pointed at the audience. The audience breaks into cheers as he pans the room with the camera recording.

“That’s perfect, I’m leaving,” said Gordon-Levitt before proceeding to tell members of the audience to keep their cameras and phones on for the duration of the event. Photos and recordings during the show will be uploaded on to laptops in the back of the room to be used as a part of hitrecord.org projects.
Tweets with the hash tag “hitrecorducla” will be used throughout the event to select questions by audience members.

Fun fact: Gordon-Levitt’s mother and late brother, Dan Gordon-Levitt, both attended UCLA.
Update 8:50 p.m. First hash tagged tweet selected by Joseph Gordon-Levitt from his phone:

monicalovestrs: No work of art is done alone. What we create is a reflection of social construction and how we see the world, @hitrecordjoe.#hitrecorducla

The tweet leads to a conversation on writing and the state of mind while writing.

Update 9:10 p.m. Screening of Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeeth Date – The Zeppelin Zoo, a collaboration created on hitrecord.org which screened at South by Southwest film festival 2010.

Gordon-Levitt proceeds to describe the process of how the film was made from initial drawings (or “doodles”) by Jennifer Maria, a hitrecord.org contributor, a short story written by Sarah Daly, another member of hitrecord.org, a score with numerous hitrecord.org musicians lending their sound and live acting and voice overs by Gordon-Levitt himself.
“It started as something where just I put up videos, but now it’s become a collaborative sounding board,” Gordon-Levitt said.
Gordon-Levitt said that in 2010 hitrecord.org evolved because of the move from a collaborative community to a professional production company.

“If my goal was to make money, I certainly wouldn’t be here,” Gordon-Levitt said. “I’d be producing a reality TV show.”
Update 9:25 Screening of a recent hitrecord.org project entitled and a new earth.

Third hash tagged tweet selected in response to fact that contributors to hitrecord.org have the opportunity to make money based on their contribution.

jules_su: Could sending the artists money make it ALL about the money? History shows it does. Paving the road to hell #hitrecorducla
Gordon-Levitt said there is a danger that giving artist money for their contribution can cause creative problems and that, in traditional hollywood, when there is a bad movie it is because the focus was on the money.

“Make something for me, put it up there, I’ll sell it,” Gordon-Levitt said in response to conversation with “jules-su” about writing.

Update 9:35 The event has just gone live. Gordon-Levitt and his team bring the hitrecord.org home page up on Ackerman Grand Ballroom’s projection screen and begin recording an actual record. A record is what a single contribution (video, drawing, written work, etc.) uploaded on hitrecord.org is called.

“Dan went to college here, so these are all the cool kids,” Gordon-Levitt said for the recording.

(For those that want to check out the record, it will be posted on the hitrecord.org site as “RE: Art Questions.”)

Update 9:50 p.m. Showing of a work-in-progress entitled “Everything Is On Fire.” According to Gordon-Levitt this is a project that is still in need of a video editor and is being shown to give UCLA students an idea of the projects that they can contribute to.

Now showing “The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories” which is a project where contributors create short stories that can then be turned into full videos by other hitrecord.org members. The audience response to both of the 30 second tiny stories is the largest to any films shown tonight. (Forbidden Love and Dear Flower)

Gordon-Levitt finished the evening by introducing the song Nebulullaby created by his friend Sean Lennon and Lennon’s writing partner Kemp Muhl, of the band “The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.” The video features contributions of images and videos of people sleeping by hitrecord.org members. Gordon-Levitt said the project is in need of more images of sleeping people and is another opportunity for UCLA students to become involved.
Update 10 p.m. And that’s all she wrote. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has left the building. Or at the very least, he’s left Ackerman Grand Ballroom. Thanks for tuning in for our first live blogging.

Chris Fine raves about Tom Hardy in interview

Yesterday StarTrek.com posted an interview with Chris Pine in which he raves about This Means War co-star Tom Hardy.

The italics are my added thoughts and what I'm sure C-Fine was also thinking.

You’re shooting This Means War right now with McG directing and Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy joining you in front of the camera. Have you and Tom Hardy shared Star Trek stories yet?

Pine: You know, we haven’t, actually. We just talked about it briefly for the first time the other day (after we had sex). But, man, is he a hell of an actor (and lover). I don’t need to tell anyone this, but he’s going to be around for a long time (he can go all night). He’s already been around for a long time, but he’s going to explode (all over my face). He’s just tremendous (in bed).

In the interview he also talks Star Trek (duh), working with Denzel and other stuff I didn't bother to read. But you can do so at the SOURCE.

    Let the party begin.

Does Jeremy Renner Have A Crush On Tom Cruise?

A few weeks ago, we had new photos of Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner working at night on the Prague set of Mission: Impossible IV. I made some jokes about Tom Cruise making sure that he got to work with a damp Jeremy Renner, and some of you were offended. I don’t apologize. Tom Cruise is helming the third sequel in one of his most popular franchises, and he made sure to surround himself with some of the prettiest, and most interesting actors out there - in addition to Renner, Cruise also made sure that Josh Holloway was cast. I mean… come on. The homoerotic fairy tales are going to be written. Anyway, The National Enquirer has a new take on the homoeroticism taking place on set. According to their sources, Jeremy Renner is the one with the crush. On Tom. Of course, The Enquirer is basing this on the idea that Renner is gay, which they claimed several months ago.

"Tom Cruise has a not-so-secret admirer - his costar Jeremy Renner. Renner - outed as gay early this year by his former acting coach - has a massice man-crush on his longtime idol, sources say, and the Mission: Impossible set is buzzing about their close friendship.

“Jeremy is always gushing about how charming and handsome Tom is. He even says things like, ‘When I grow up, I want to be just like Tom Cruise!’” an insider divulged.

Another source says: “It’s a physically grueling shoots, but Jeremy lights up whenever he’s with Tom… They’re always hugging, slapping each other on the back and bumping fists.”
Some speculate that Renner is being groomed to take over the M:I franchise. Renner - a 39 year old bachelor - has denied romances with Charlize Theron and Jessica Simpson in the past, and he’s fanned speculation about his sexuality by refusing to address the reports that he’s gay.

The insider also claims: “Jeremy’s relationship with Tom seems to work just fine. Jeremy feeds Tom’s ego, and Tom gets a charge out of Jeremy idolizing him.”"
[From The National Enquirer, print edition]

Oooh, kitten likes to play! Gay or straight, I think Jeremy would probably treat Tom with respect and even try to emulate certain things about Tom’s career. For example is supposed to be one of the nicest guys to work with - and I think any up-and-coming actor would be smart to look up to that quality. Now, is Renner flirting with Tom? “Stroking” Tom’s ego, amongst other things? And “They’re always hugging, slapping each other on the back and bumping fists”- the most homoerotic sentence ever. Well… I think why know why Tom is flying solo in Prague, while his wife and young daughter are in LA. I mean… Tom and Jeremy are adults. And there’s a lot of stroking to be done.
